HIVSA
HIVSA’s mission is to develop and implement innovative and multi-disciplinary programmes that directly contribute to the increased well-being, upliftment and education of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. CTAOP is the primary funder for HIVSA’s innovative project called Bokang Batsha (“rejoice in our young people”).
Bokang Batsha links South Africa’s young women and girls with interactive and relevant information through the use of social media and mobile phones. The project will take the form of a mobile “magazine” and counteract the false information being propagated with healthy lifestyle content and access to information on sexual and reproductive health, as well as broader issues. Driving the rationale behind this mobile phone application is the fact that women between the ages of 15 and 24 are the most vulnerable and at risk demographic for HIV infection. Additionally in South Africa, mobile phones are an ideal engagement tool for a population that owns more mobile phones than desktops and more SIM cards than the entire country’s population of 52,000,000
